M&W JAWO Sampling first supplied an automated sampling system for nickel to the mine in Moa in 2004. Five years later the operations at the mine were expanded and M&W JAWO delivered another system. Lastly, in 2012 it was decided to upgrade the first sampling system as production had increased where M&W JAWO also delivered new sampling equipment to replace certain parts of the original system.

The Moa Joint Venture located in Cuba explores, develops, mines and processes nickel laterite deposits in Cuba for refining into finished nickel and cobalt from a refinery in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta.

The project was established in 1994 and the ownership is evenly split between General Nickel Company S.A. of Cuba and Sherritt International Corporation of Canada. Sheritt is the largest foreign investor in Cuba and has increased its business in the country since the reduction in trade embargos between USA and Cuba.
