The Convection of Helium with HTS (CvHeHTS) model is an advanced, convection-cooled pair of current leads that integrates high-temperature superconducting (HTS) material.
The upper resistive section (Section 1) functions similarly to the traditional CvHe design, utilizing helium vapor for active cooling.
The lower section (Section 2) utilizes HTS material to conduct the current into the cold environment.
This configuration requires the thermal intersection point between the two sections to be maintained at a carefully controlled temperature strictly below the critical temperature of the selected HTS material. Because the HTS section is a poor thermal conductor compared to copper and operates with zero resistive losses, the heat load transferred to the liquid helium bath is drastically reduced.
This highly efficient design is engineered for demanding high-current applications ranging from 5 kA to 70 kA.
