Conduction Cold Terminal with Convection Nitrogen.

  • Current: 10-45 kA
  • Coolant: LN2

The CdCt-CvN2 is a conduction and convection type, 100% LN2-cooled system designed to act as the termination point for the input and output ends of a superconducting cable.

Operating entirely without HTS material, it manages temperatures by utilizing the cooling capacity of the cable terminations as a parasitic heat load and in addition it is configured with an internal heat exchanger. The heat exchanger gets it coolant from the continuous flow of LN2 passing to or from the superconducting cable.

In addition to transferring current, the design features a dedicated cryogenic port allowing the coolant to enter or exit the system. This provides a robust termination solution for operating currents ranging from 10-45 kA and voltages from 400 VDC to 35 kVAC.
