New 10,000 psi (690 bar) APRS Unit – Full Design, Manufacturing, Testing and Type Approval Completed in Under Six Months

M&W Pressure Relief Systems has delivered a new 10,000 psi (690 bar) Annulus Pressure Relief System (APRS) for a major North Sea operator with exceptionally high technical and safety requirements.

The project began with a direct customer request for a high-pressure safety solution for oil & gas well stimulation and intervention operations, where annulus overpressure protection is critical.

From initial inquiry to engineering design, in-house manufacturing, testing and DNV type approval, the entire process was completed in less than six months, compared to the industry norm of 12–24 months.

Built and Qualified for High-Pressure Well Stimulation and Intervention

The APRS is based on burst disc technology, providing highly accurate, passive and fail-safe annulus protection for high-pressure well stimulation jobs.

The new unit was fully engineered, machined, welded, assembled and pressure-tested at Mark & Wedell’s facilities.

Both the 10,000 psi (690 bar) and the 6,000 psi (420 bar) variants are now type approved by DNV under Certificate TAP0000190.

DNV-Drop

As part of the development, M&W produced a new burst disc specification and geometry suitable for operating pressures up to 10,000 psi (690 bar).

For this specific project, the customer selected a 7,300 psi (503 bar) burst disc setting, which was fully validated including assessment of the disc housing, sealing interface and micro-weld integrity as documented in the DNV FEA and approval basis.

Proven Technology

M&W Pressure Relief Systems has supplied APRS solutions to the oil and gas industry since 1995, with more than 1,000 well stimulation operations completed worldwide using our systems.

Both APRS models — 6,000 psi and 10,000 psi — are available through M&W Pressure Relief Systems.
