Retrofit (CvHH/CvHNH)

The retrofit current leads are designed to fit into existing set-ups. It can utilize either the CvHH or CvHNH design to upgrade your existing current leads. Mark & Wedell are specialists in implementing new solutions in old cryostats taking spatial constrains into account. Such a retrofit can enable a current increase of up to 50% and/or a significant reduction in the LHe consumption. This is done by utilizing HTS material and LN2 as a coolant. This design is used for operating currents of 2-30 kA.

Convection w. HTS & Nitrogen (CvHNH)

Convection w. HTS (CvHH)

The CvHH is a convection type, LHe + GHe-cooled pair of current leads, which introduces high-temperature superconducting material. Section 1 (see sketch) is similar to the traditional CvH, while section 2 has HTS material as conductor of the currents. This design requires that the intersection point is kept at a fixed temperature, above the critical temperature of the chosen HTS. Since the HTS part fortunately is a poor conductor of heat compared to copper and the HTS does not have any resistive losses, the amount of heat that reaches the helium bath is very low. This design can be used for operating currents of 2-70 kA.

Convection (CvH)

The CvH is a convection type, LHe + GHe-cooled pair of current leads. It has, similarly to the CdH, the cold terminal immerged in a bath of liquid helium. In addition, the helium gas generated from the boil-off is funnelled into one or several channels inside the current leads and the gas is used to cool the current leads from the inside. This is a very efficient design compared to the CdH, as it takes advantage of the helium boil-off. This design is used for operating currents ranging from 100-30 kA.

Conduction (CdH)

The CdH is a conduction type, LHe-cooled pair of current leads. The cold terminal is immerged in a bath of liquid helium, which removes the heat conducted from the warm terminal (QC) and any heat generated from resistive losses in the current leads (QR). This design is used for operating currents ranging from 10-100 A.

Annulus Pressure Relief System – Oil & Gas Well Treatment & Intervention (10,000 psi)

M&W Engineering invented the Annulus Pressure Relief System (APRS) for oil and gas well treatment and intervention up to 10,000 psi (689 bar). The system is based on burst discs which can easily be installed and replaced at sea. It is significantly more accurate and safe-to-use than other comparable systems such as traditional PRVs and is type-approved by DNV. the APRS has been used world-wide for 1,000+ well stimulation jobs on- and offshore. Customers include companies such as Shell, BP, Aker BP, Maersk Oil & Gas (now Total), Hess, Aker BP, Halliburton, Stimwell Services and Schlumberger.

Pulverised Fuel Sampler Automatic BIO

The Pulverised Fuel Sampler Automatic BIO (PFSA-B) is a portable unit with automatic operation for extraction of a representative physical sample of pulverized biomass from the full cross section of a fuel pipe, inspired by ISO 9931 and improved further. The PFSA-B is primarily used to determine the fuel mass-flow rate of biomass in the pipes fed to the burners and furnace. For optimal measurements, the PFSA-B should be used together with a M&W Dirty Air Pitot Laser (DAPL) to ensure a fully isokinetic sample. By using the DAPL the PFSA-B can receive data directly via Bluetooth.

Mechanical Engineering (ME)

Mechanical Engineering (ME) is at the core of M&W, especially within the disciplines of mechanics, dynamics, thermodynamics and structural analysis. M&W has a dedicated team of mechanical engineers that design, engineer, build, test and document the product/solution. The design is either based on our standardised concepts which takes customers specifications into account or can be a development of a prototype. M&W offers an A to Z solution, and thus after the engineering has been performed, a dedicated team of inhouse machine operators, metalworkers and blacksmiths ensure the entire mechanical production. After production, the M&W mechanical and electrical engineers test the entire product/solution before shipment. As per requirement, a factory acceptance test (FAT) is performed before shipment.

Electrical Engineering (EE)

Electrical Engineering (EE) is the classical discipline of designing switch gears, control cabinets, power cables etc. The EE at M&W has been an integrated part of the business from the very beginning. M&W has a dedicated team of inhouse electrical engineers that design, build and test the required electrical systems that complement the mechanical solutions. The design is based on our standardised concepts which take customers specifications into account. The M&W team of both electrical and automation engineers ensures a seamless integration, test and documentation of the entire electrical system. To perform the tasks above, M&W has a team of inhouse electricians that operate internally and externally at customer sites. Often, it is one of these electricians that act as a supervisor for electrical installation tasks at a customer site.

Bucket Sampler

The Bucket Sampler (BS) is designed to extract increments/cuts from a free-falling flow of bulk materials in a vertical duct. Representativity is ensured since a complete cross section of the material is collected.

Sample Magazine (SM)

The Sample Magazine (SM) is designed to automatically fill sample buckets with bulk materials after the sampling process has been completed. The SM also act as a storage device since it has multiple buckets installed inside. The SM prevents cross-contamination and moisture loss of the samples gathered.

Sample Magazine Long (SM-L)

The Sample Magazine Long (SM-L) is designed to automatically fill sample buckets with bulk materials after the sampling process has been completed. The SM-L prevents cross-contamination and moisture loss of the samples gathered. The SM-L also act as a storage device since it has multiple buckets installed inside. The long version (SM-L) compared to the SM version enables a customized device with a larger buffer for both empty and full buckets.

Mobile Sampling Container (MSC)

The Mobile Sample Container (MSC) is ergonomically designed to receive sampled material in large quantities, for easy transport to the laboratory or to a sampling preparation facility.

Stainless Steel Buckets (SSB)

The Stainless Steel Buckets (SSB) can be used in many different industries and for many different purposes. The SSB come either as a standard version with a lid or can be customised with wheels, air-tight lid, outlet chute etc. The SSB come in different sizes, typically 6 l, 10 l and 15 l, but can also be customised.

Plastic Bucket (PB)

The Plastic Bucket (PB) can be used in many different industries and for many different purposes. The PB include an air-tight lid and come in different sizes, typically 6 l, 10 l and 15 l. However, can also be delivered up to 100 l.

Dosing Conveyor (DoC)

The Dosing Conveyor (DoC) is specially designed to transport high volumes of sample material and can be engaged in any of the steps of the sampling process. Contrary to a standard conveyor belt, the DoC has a design that ensures a minimum of spillage and correct dosing for instance into a crusher or a divider. The DoC can also be used to transport the rejected material back to the mainstream.

Screw Conveyor (SC)

The Screw Conveyor (SC) is used for transportation of bulk materials from A to B by rotation of a screw (the auger principle). The material is transferred in a tube that ensures no spillage of material. The SC provides accurate dosing for instance into a crusher or a divider. The SC can also be used to transport relatively small volumes of reject material from sample preparation back to the mainstream.

Bucket Belt Elevator

The Bucket Belt Elevator (BBE) is designed to lift material from point A to point B by means of buckets. The buckets are attached to a belt that pulls them around. The BBE is typically used to lift the reject material and return it to the main flow.

Bucket Chain Elevator

The Bucket Chain Elevator (BCE) is designed to lift material from point A to point B by means of buckets. The buckets are pulled by two chains. The BCE is typically used to lift the reject material and return it to the main flow in a sampling solution.

Bucket Lifter

The Bucket Lifter (BL) is designed to lift material from A to B by means of one or more buckets. Compared to the BCE or BBE the BL is specifically designed for lifting smaller quantities of material.

Vibration Feeder (VF)

The Vibration Feeder (VF) is designed for conveying and dosing dry non-sticky bulk materials such as pellets, granules or powders by means of vibrations. The unit can be integrated in any sampling systems where relatively small volumes of material have to be conveyed on a horizonal level. The VF is normally used to perform dosing of sampled material to further sample preparation.

Twin Roll Shredder (TRS)

The Twin Roll Shredder (TRS) is designed for shredding of soft and medium-hard materials – dry or slightly wet and semi-sticky. For materials such as wood chips, waste wood, cardboard, plastics, coal, electro-scrap and some metal waste like milling waste. The Twin Roll Shredder can be used as a primary, secondary or even tertiary crusher.

Pulverised Fuel Sampler Automatic (PFSA)

The Pulverised Fuel Sampler Automatic (PFSA) is a portable unit with automatic operation for extraction of a representative physical sample from the full cross section of a fuel pipe, according to the international standard ISO 9931. The PFSA is primarily used to determine the fuel mass-flow in the pipe. For optimal measurements, the PFSA should be used together with a M&W Dirty Air Pitot (DAP) or Dirty Air Pitot Laser (DAPL) to ensure a fully isokinetic sample. By using the DAPL the PFSA can receive the data directly via Bluetooth.

Screw Sampler Mixing Tank (SMX)

The Screw Sampler Mixing Tank (SMX) is designed to create an average composite sample from continuous or intermittent increment extraction of dry non-sticky powdered free-falling material from a chute or in a silo. The SMX is the standard in many cement plants where extraction and integrated mixing is required. The mixing function of the SMX provides for more well-mixed samples compared to the SCR.

Unburned Carbon Online Analyser (UBC-2400)

The Unburned Carbon Online Analyser 2400 (UBC-2400) provides the operators with automatic and continuous online information about the amount of unburned carbon (UBC) in post-combustion fly ash as well as physical samples for further laboratory testing. The UBC-2400 is typically used on large electric boilers firing with hard or brown coal. The UBC-2400 differs from the UBC-2000 as it utilizes microwave technology which is especially suited for power plants combusting coal with a higher variance in properties due to sourcing from different coal mines. The UBC-2400 can be placed in the flue gas duct close to the combustion zone allowing the information regarding burn-out efficiency to be used directly in the boiler control room. In addition to the continuous measurement. The UBC-2400 can direct a physical sample into a bottle that enabling laboratory testing. The UBC-2400 differs from the UBC-2200 due to its newly developed dual cell technology (reference chamber) which provides for even higher measurement accuracy of UBC levels. The UBC-2400 is also available for installation in the hopper using a different extraction mechanism.

The UBC-3000 utilizes microwave technology and can be placed in the flue gas duct close to the combustion zone allowing the information regarding burn-out efficiency to be used directly in the boiler control room. The UBC-3000 specifically developed for biomass fuels caters for the bigger and more varied biomass post-combustion fly ash particles compared to coal. The UBC-3000 uses a dual cell technology (reference chamber) which provides for very high measurement accuracy of UBC levels. Furthermore, the dual cell technology eliminates the use of temperature control and an air conditioner unit. The UBC-3000 is also available for installation in the hopper using a different extraction mechanism.

Air Slide Sampler (AS)

The Air Slide Sampler (AS) is designed for continuous or intermittent increment extraction of dry, non-sticky airborne powdered material ducted in horizontal or inclined air slides. The AS intersects ducted material, typically confined to a circular cross-section, in a linear increment transect.

Dirty Air Pitot Laser (DAPL)

The Dirty Air Pitot Laser (DAPL) is a portable instrument designed to measure the temperature, pressure and flow velocity in fuel pipes or duct systems transporting a mixture of air and pulverized coal or biomass as well as cement, lime or food product or other particles. The DAPL has a built-in laser pointer for distance measurements which is needed in order to obtain the correct data for the full flow velocity profile. The DAPL can work as a stand-alone unit and provide data to the operator or alternatively with M&W PFS or PFSA to ensure optimal measurements. Furthermore, the DAPL can transfer the data to the PFSA via Bluetooth.

Dirty Air Pitot (DAP)

The Dirty Air Pitot (DAP) is a portable instrument that is designed to measure the temperature, pressure and flow-velocity in fuel pipes or duct systems transporting a mixture of air and pulverized coal or biomass as well as cement, lime or powder food products or other particles of similar size. The DAP can work as a stand-alone unit and provide data to the operator or alternatively with M&W PFS or PFSA to ensure optimal measurements.

Screw Sampler (SCR)

The Screw Sampler (SCR) is designed for continuous or intermittent sample extraction of dry, non-sticky powdered free-falling material from a chute or in a silo. The SCR is the standard sampler in many cement plants and is also widely used in chemical and power plants.

Pulverised Fuel Sampler (PFS)

The Pulverised Fuel Sampler (PFS) is a portable unit with manual operation for extraction of a representative physical sample from the full cross-section of a fuel pipe according to the international standard ISO 9931. The PFS is primarily used to determine the fuel mass flow in the pipe. For optimal measurements, the PFS should be used together with an M&W Dirty Air Pitot (DAP) or Dirty Air Pitot Laser (DAPL) to ensure a fully isokinetic sample.

Particle Sampler (PS)

The Particle Sampler (PS) is an automatic sampling device for collecting increments of dust or powder from pneumatic transportation pipelines. The automatic sampling is performed over a period of time in order to record the average manifestation of the material properties. After a pre-set number of increments have been taken, the bottle below the PS containing the sample is taken to a laboratory for analysis. The PS is among other industries widely used in the power plants for the collection of fly ash and can be placed in the ash transporting pipeline or in the related pneumatic blow unit.

Dustless Connection (DuC)

The Dustless Connection (DuC) is designed to connect a portable measuring instrument with the transport pipe. The DuC is permanently fitted in a socket on the pipe. The DuC enables the measurement instrument to be easily inserted dust-free into the transport pipe thanks to the overpressure mechanism.

Welding Guide (WG)

The Welding Guide (WG) is a tool that ensures a correct positioning of the required socket that enables the Dustless Connector (DC) to be connected to the transport pipe. The DC is used as an instrument port for the Pulverized Fuel Sampler (PFS/PFSA) that is used to extract a representative sample from the full cross section of a fuel pipe. Since, it is critical that the sample head of the PFS/PFSA can rotate freely inside the transport pipe a correct mounting of the socket is essential. The WG secures that the socket with thread is welded perpendicular on and in the center line of the transport pipe.

Eccentricity Tester (ET)

The Eccentricity Tester (ET) is used to test the eccentricity of the sockets welded on to the transport pipes. This is required to avoid the Pulverized Fuel Sampler PFS/PFSA from getting stuck on the inside wall of the transport pipe during sampling. The ET test if the space inside the transport pipe is sufficent for a full rotation of the PFS/PFSA.

Rotary Tube Divider (RTD)

The Rotary Tube Divider (RTD) is designed for representative mass reduction of bulk material. The RTD can be used for mass reduction of virtually any type of dry materials. The RTD is a robust, all-round sub-sampling solution. The RTD is used in many multi-stage sampling systems but may also be used as a stand-alone divider.

Rotary Disc Divider (RDD)

The Rotary Disc Divider (RDD) is designed for combined dosing and representative dividing of bulk material.

Rotary Tube Splitter (RTS)

The Rotary Tube Splitter (RTS) is designed for representative splitting of bulk material. The material is split evenly between a number of sample outlets.

Dividing Plant (DP)

Dividing Plant (DP) is designed for a representative division of materials with various particle sizes. The DP can be easily moved around in the laboratory or production facility and can be installed in conjunction with a sampling plant or as a standalone divider.

Vertical Disc Divider (VDD)

The Vertical Disc Divider (VDD) is designed for representative division of bulk material at a small and fixed division ratio.

Divider Gate (DG)

The Divider Gate (DG) is used for directing the materials into two different streams.

Dual Splitter (DS)

The Dual Splitter (DS) is used for splitting materials into two sampling buckets.

Riffle Splitter (RS)

The Riffle Splitter (RS) is designed for manual representative splitting of dry, granulated and powdered sample material with a volume of 1-20 litres. Can be used both in the field and in the laboratory providing fractional sub-samples for further preparation.

Cross Stream Sampler (CSS)

The Cross Stream Sampler (CSS) extracts a representative increment/cut of bulk material from a free-falling stream at the discharge point of a conveyor belt. Representatively of the increment is ensured by extraction of a complete cross section of the material stream.

The Cross Belt Sampler is the new and improved hammer sampler The Cross-Belt Sampler (CBS) is designed to take an increment/cut from bulk materials being conveyed on a conveyor belt. The cross sampler includes a fully enclosed housing that covers all moving parts thereby reducing spillage and increasing safety. M&W Jawo Samplings Cross Belt Sampler is a type of hammer sampler, with a optimsed design in order to ensure the obtaining of better representative samples.

Vezin Sampler (VS)

The Vezin Sampler (VS) is designed to extract increments from a vertically falling stream of material. Representativity is ensured since a complete cross section of the free-falling bulk material is collected.

Cross Stream Cutter (CSC)

The Cross Stream Cutter (CSC) is designed to extract a representative increment/cut by discharging a complete cross section of the free-falling bulk material in an outlet chute.

Vezin Sampler with Mixing Tank (VSMX)

The Vezin Sampler Mixing Tank (VSMX) consists of two combined units. The Vezin sampler is designed to extract increments from a vertically falling primary material stream (see VS). The second unit, the mixing tank (MX), collects a specified number of extracted increments in a mixing and homogenising tank. This unit ensures that the primary sampled material at all times is well mixed by means of an impeller and thus represents the average primary material captured by the VS.

The retrofit current leads are designed to fit into existing set-ups. It can utilize either the CvHH or CvHNH design to upgrade your existing current leads. Mark & Wedell are specialists in implementing new solutions in old cryostats taking spatial constrains into account. Such a retrofit can enable a current increase of up to 50% and/or a significant reduction in the LHe consumption. This is done by utilizing HTS material and LN2 as a coolant. This design is used for operating currents of 2-30 kA.

Convection w. HTS & Nitrogen (CvHNH)

Convection w. HTS (CvHH)

The CvHH is a convection type, LHe + GHe-cooled pair of current leads, which introduces high-temperature superconducting material. Section 1 (see sketch) is similar to the traditional CvH, while section 2 has HTS material as conductor of the currents. This design requires that the intersection point is kept at a fixed temperature, above the critical temperature of the chosen HTS. Since the HTS part fortunately is a poor conductor of heat compared to copper and the HTS does not have any resistive losses, the amount of heat that reaches the helium bath is very low. This design can be used for operating currents of 2-70 kA.

The CvH is a convection type, LHe + GHe-cooled pair of current leads. It has, similarly to the CdH, the cold terminal immerged in a bath of liquid helium. The Unburned Carbon Online Analyser for biomass (UBC-3000) provides the operators with automatic and continuous online information about the amount of unburned carbon (UBC) in post-combustion fly ash from biomass as well as physical samples for further laboratory testing. The UBC-3000 utilizes microwave technology and can be placed in the flue gas duct close to the combustion zone allowing the information regarding burn-out efficiency to be used directly in the boiler control room. The UBC-3000 specifically developed for biomass fuels caters for the bigger and more varied biomass post-combustion fly ash particles compared to coal. The UBC-3000 uses a dual cell technology (reference chamber) which provides for very high measurement accuracy of UBC levels. Furthermore, the dual cell technology eliminates the use of temperature control and an air conditioner unit. The Dustless Connection (DuC) is designed to connect a portable measuring instrument with the transport pipe. The DuC is permanently fitted in a socket on the pipe. The DuC enables the measurement instrument to be easily inserted dust-free into the transport pipe thanks to the overpressure mechanism.

Welding Guide (WG)

The Welding Guide (WG) is a tool that ensures a correct positioning of the required socket that enables the Dustless Connector (DC) to be connected to the transport pipe. The DC is used as an instrument port for the Pulverized Fuel Sampler (PFS/PFSA) that is used to extract a representative sample from the full cross section of a fuel pipe. Since, it is critical that the sample head of the PFS/PFSA can rotate freely inside the transport pipe a correct mounting of the socket is essential. The WG secures that the socket with thread is welded perpendicular on and in the center line of the transport pipe.

Eccentricity Tester (ET)

The Eccentricity Tester (ET) is used to test the eccentricity of the sockets welded on to the transport pipes. This is required to avoid the Pulverized Fuel Sampler PFS/PFSA from getting stuck on the inside wall of the transport pipe during sampling. The ET test if the space inside the transport pipe is sufficent for a full rotation of the PFS/PFSA.

The Pulverised Fuel Sampler Automatic BIO (PFSA-B) is a portable unit with automatic operation for extraction of a representative physical sample of pulverized biomass from the full cross section of a fuel pipe, inspired by ISO 9931 and improved further. The PFSA-B is primarily used to determine the fuel mass-flow rate of biomass in the pipes fed to the burners and furnace. For optimal measurements, the PFSA-B should be used together with a M&W Dirty Air Pitot Laser (DAPL) to ensure a fully isokinetic sample. By using the DAPL the PFSA-B can receive data directly via Bluetooth.

Mechanical Engineering (ME)

Mechanical Engineering (ME) is at the core of M&W, especially within the disciplines of mechanics, dynamics, thermodynamics and structural analysis. M&W has a dedicated team of mechanical engineers that design, engineer, build, test and document the product/solution. The design is either based on our standardised concepts which takes customers specifications into account or can be a development of a prototype. M&W offers an A to Z solution, and thus after the engineering has been performed, a dedicated team of inhouse machine operators, metalworkers and blacksmiths ensure the entire mechanical production. After production, the M&W mechanical and electrical engineers test the entire product/solution before shipment. As per requirement, a factory acceptance test (FAT) is performed before shipment.

Electrical Engineering (EE)

Electrical Engineering (EE) is the classical discipline of designing switch gears, control cabinets, power cables etc. The EE at M&W has been an integrated part of the business from the very beginning. M&W has a dedicated team of inhouse electrical engineers that design, build and test the required electrical systems that complement the mechanical solutions. The design is based on our standardised concepts which take customers specifications into account. The M&W team of both electrical and automation engineers ensures a seamless integration, test and documentation of the entire electrical system. To perform the tasks above, M&W has a team of inhouse electricians that operate internally and externally at customer sites. Often, it is one of these electricians that act as a supervisor for electrical installation tasks at a customer site.

The Pulverised Fuel Sampler (PFS) is a portable unit with manual operation for extraction of a representative physical sample from the full cross-section of a fuel pipe according to the international standard ISO 9931. The PFS is primarily used to determine the fuel mass flow in the pipe. For optimal measurements, the PFS should be used together with an M&W Dirty Air Pitot (DAP) or Dirty Air Pitot Laser (DAPL) to ensure a fully isokinetic sample.

The Dirty Air Pitot Laser (DAPL) is a portable instrument designed to measure the temperature, pressure and flow velocity in fuel pipes or duct systems transporting a mixture of air and pulverized coal or biomass as well as cement, lime or food product or other particles. The DAPL has a built-in laser pointer for distance measurements which is needed in order to obtain the correct data for the full flow velocity profile. The DAPL can work as a stand-alone unit and provide data to the operator or alternatively with M&W PFS or PFSA to ensure optimal measurements. Furthermore, the DAPL can transfer the data to the PFSA via Bluetooth.

The Dirty Air Pitot (DAP) is a portable instrument that is designed to measure the temperature, pressure and flow-velocity in fuel pipes or duct systems transporting a mixture of air and pulverized coal or biomass as well as cement, lime or powder food products or other particles of similar size. The DAP can work as a stand-alone unit and provide data to the operator or alternatively with M&W PFS or PFSA to ensure optimal measurements.

The Dustless Connection (DuC) is designed to connect a portable measuring instrument with the transport pipe. The DuC is permanently fitted in a socket on the pipe. The DuC enables the measurement instrument to be easily inserted dust-free into the transport pipe thanks to the overpressure mechanism.

Unburned Carbon Online Analyser (UBC-2000)

The Unburned Carbon Online Analyser 2000 (UBC-2000) provides the operators with automatic and continuous online information about the amount of unburned carbon (UBC) in post-combustion fly ash as well as physical samples for further laboratory testing. The UBC-2000 is typically used on large electric boilers firing with hard or brown coal. The UBC-2000 utilizes its infrared technology especially suitable for power plants combusting coal with a lower variance in properties due to sourcing from similar coal mines/ excavation points). The UBC-2000 can be placed in the flue gas duct close to the combustion zone allowing the information to be used directly in the boiler control room. M&W was the first company in the world to invent, patent and install the UBC online analyser in the world.

The Eccentricity Tester (ET) is used to test the eccentricity of the sockets welded on to the transport pipes. This is required to avoid the Pulverized Fuel Sampler PFS/PFSA from getting stuck on the inside wall of the transport pipe during sampling. The ET test if the space inside the transport pipe is sufficent for a full rotation of the PFS/PFSA.

The Welding Guide (WG) is a tool that ensures a correct positioning of the required socket that enables the Dustless Connector (DC) to be connected to the transport pipe. The DC is used as an instrument port for the Pulverized Fuel Sampler (PFS/PFSA) that is used to extract a representative sample from the full cross section of a fuel pipe. Since, it is critical that the sample head of the PFS/PFSA can rotate freely inside the transport pipe a correct mounting of the socket is essential. The WG secures that the socket with thread is welded perpendicular on and in the center line of the transport pipe.
